I've been gratified by the band's obvious reverence for their influences - Otis, The Staples, Stax/Volt, the gospel stuff - much like the North Mississippi Allstars, they're true children of the Delta country. Listen to the band on some of their extended instrumental themes - they really know how to churn and build some heat, then drop it down to a whisper, dynamic control that really gives her vocals some drama. They work really hard - thing is, where do they take that from here? I think their hearts're in the right place and wish 'em all the luck.

I have no argument with your viewpoint at all. But I'm old with a fairly large musical history and collection. They just don't impress me enough to break into my regular listening. I'd much rather listen to their influences. Another example in the recent past for me was the Black Keys. They seemed to be the rock saviors for 2012 so I gave them a shot (live and record) and what I got was like why bother?
